UNI School of Music to host 42nd annual Scholarship Benefit Concert
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – "All of Us" will be the theme of the 42nd Annual Scholarship Benefit Concert, hosted by the UNI School of Music. Held during UNI Family Weekend, the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29 in the Catherine Cassidy Gallagher Great Hall of the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center (GBPAC) on the University of Northern Iowa campus.
The evening will be filled with exceptional performances by student ensembles and faculty musicians including performances by the UNI Wind Ensemble, Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra, UNI Suzuki School, UNI Opera, Jazz Band One and Concert Chorale, with featured faculty artist pianists Korey Barrett and Sean Botkin. This year’s concert is aimed at capturing the uniquely collaborative and engagement-driven spirit of the School of Music. Works will include selections from Gounod’s “Roméo et Juliette,” Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia,” Holst’s “The Planets,” Johnson’s “Considering Matthew Shepard” and more.
Following the concert, audience members are invited to enjoy chocolates and beverages in the Gallagher Bluedorn lobby, with music provided by the Hands of Time, featuring faculty artists Christopher Merz, Bob Dunn, and Jon Schwabe with guest Josh Hakanson.
The Scholarship Benefit Concerts have been raising scholarship funds for exceptionally talented music students and students in need for many years. The UNI School of Music is regarded as one of the finest music programs in the Midwest.
