As we continue the UNI Sesquicentennial Celebration, July brings several significant anniversaries in the university's history.

On July 1, 1909, the Iowa State Normal School officially became the Iowa State Teachers College, reflecting the institution's growing role in preparing educators. 

More than 50 years later, the Iowa State Teachers College officially became the State College of Iowa on July 4, 1961, marking another chapter in the institution's evolution.

On July 1, 1967, the State College of Iowa officially became the University of Northern Iowa—the name the university proudly carries today.
