System of Support Conference

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa College of Social & Behavioral Sciences, Educational Opportunity Center and Center for Urban Education welcome social workers, health care professionals, community service providers and educators to participate in the 2023 System of Support Conference.

Taking place on Friday, Nov. 17 at Hawkeye Community College’s Van G. Miller Adult Learning Center, the conference will bring together UNI faculty, staff and community health experts from Black Hawk County Public Health, Success Link Together for Youth, UnityPoint Health Allen Hospital, MercyOne Northeast Iowa, Waterloo City Council and Youth City Council, Hawkeye Community College, Peoples Community Health Clinic, and Bijelic Counseling and Consulting Services.

Sessions include: 

  • Self-Compassion as Self-Care for Helping Professionals
  • The Path to Transforming Lives Through Education
  • Sex Ed In The City
  • Health Disparities in Dementia
  • The Path to Transforming Lives Through Education

The conference’s keynote address, “Social Determinants Of Health: A Cedar Valley Perspective,” will be delivered by Kaitlin Emrich, deputy director of Black Hawk County Public Health.
