2018 National Playground Safety Week is April 23-27

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa—The National Program for Playground Safety (NPPS) at the University of Northern Iowa will celebrate National Playground Safety Week from Monday, April 23, through Friday, April 27.

Playground Safety Week is a time for everyone to focus on children’s outdoor play equipment, that they spend so much time on and adults who maintain the playground environment.

Each year, 200,000 children visit the emergency room from a playground-related injury, with a recent study reporting that 21,000 of those visits are head injuries.

NPPS encourages communities to take an active role in helping the safety of playgrounds by completing NPPS’s Safety Report Card. This research-based tool is easy to use and addresses how to check for playground hazards.
