Incoming UNI student awarded Sally Gearhart Strottman Memorial Scholarship

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Jordan Downing, a Waverly-Shell Rock student and incoming UNI freshman, has been awarded the Sally Gearhart Strottman Memorial Scholarship in Elementary Education at the University of Northern Iowa. The award is given by the UNI College of Education to an incoming freshman from Northeast Iowa who will pursue a degree in elementary education. The scholarship award is $10,000 and is renewable for a total of four years.

The scholarship honors the late Sally Gearhart Strottman, a 1970 alumna of UNI's College of Education.   Strottman was a former educator in the Waverly-Shell Rock school district.

Downing is a senior at Waverly-Shell Rock High School where he has been active in football, basketball, choir, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a member of the National Honor Society.

The scholarship was made possible through a generous gift to the UNI Foundation.
