IWRC offers free training for minor source emissions inventory

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Businesses classified as minor sources throughout the eastern portion of Iowa may be required to submit the Minor Source Emissions Inventory (MSEI) by May 15, 2013. The Iowa Waste Reduction Center (IWRC) has provided resources including tutorials and emission calculators since 2010 via msei.iwrc.org to help these businesses. The website has been updated for the 2012 reporting year requirement and the IWRC is adding one-on-one training sessions to its list of services this year.

Businesses with less than 100 employees can register for these free sessions, which allow for small businesses to meet one-on-one with an IWRC Iowa Air Emissions Assistance Program (IAEAP) specialist who can help assist in completing the MSEI. Specialists will be able to answer questions, provide assistance for completing required forms and discuss the additional tools and resources available. Three sessions will be held in:

-Dubuque on Wednesday, March 20

-Cedar Rapids on Wednesday, March 27

-Davenport on Wednesday, April 3

To register for a session, visit the MSEI website. If you are unable to attend any of the sessions listed, you may also schedule an appointment to meet with an IAEAP specialist at the IWRC office in Cedar Falls. Appointments must be scheduled before April 30.

Data collected in the MSEI’s are used by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to track Iowa's progress towards meeting national air quality standards, perform regional and local air pollution dispersion modeling, develop control and maintenance strategies required by the Clean Air Act, and identify emission levels and trends throughout the state.

The IWRC has been providing environmental services including business assistance, industry training, as well as research and development for 25 years. IWRC is a non-profit organization, and part of Business and Community Services at the University of Northern Iowa. For more information, visit www.iwrc.org.
