Local artist Chaveevah Banks Ferguson to discuss her work at Rod Library

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Local artist Chaveevah Banks Ferguson will lead a discussion of her work and life at 4 p.m., Wednesday, March 1, on the main floor of Rod Library on the UNI campus.

Ferguson earned her bachelor’s in public relations and master’s in communication education at UNI and is the owner and founder of BaHar Publishing in Waterloo. The company has published numerous books, including works of fiction, non-fiction, children’s literature and poetry.

Her paintings are on display in the library until March 5. The whimsical and colorful artwork conveys the feeling of motion, and much of her art is influenced by her love for dance and music. The images pay homage to the years she danced with the Mantu Dance Theatre of Chicago and to Chicago’s vibrant music scene, where jazz, blues and reggae ruled.

An artistic door prize will be awarded to one attendee. For more information, contact Julie Ann Beddow, library assistant, at 319-273-6256 or julieann.beddow@uni.edu.
