CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Paula Knudson has been named vice president for Student Affairs at the University of Northern Iowa. Knudson's first day at UNI will be June 19.
"Paula is an accomplished student affairs professional with many years of leadership experience," said UNI President Mark A. Nook. "She has a strong emphasis on both the theoretical and practical elements of student development and really understands the needs of a campus community. I'm very excited that Paula will be a part of the Panther family and will be bringing her skills and expertise to the University of Northern Iowa."
Knudson is an Iowa native. She earned her bachelor's degree in mathematics education from the University of Iowa, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Hartford and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Minnesota. Prior to coming to UNI, Knudson served as vice chancellor and dean of students at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse. She held other leadership positions at UW – La Crosse before becoming vice chancellor and dean of students. Knudson also worked with student affairs at the University of Minnesota Duluth and the University of Hartford.
"I'm excited that my professional journey has brought me back to Iowa," said Knudson. "The University of Northern Iowa is a special place. I'm ready to explore and engage with the students, faculty and staff and really learn more about UNI's student involvement."
Knudson replaces Terry Hogan, who retired from the vice president for Student Affairs position on June 30, 2016, after more than eight successful years at UNI. Jan Hanish has been serving as the interim vice president for Student Affairs since Hogan's retirement.
