UNI NEWS SERVICES - Theatre UNI will kick-off its 2019-20 season with Marja-Lewis Ryan’s award-winning play, “One in the Chamber” Oct. 24-26 and Oct. 31-Nov. 2 at 7:30p.m. and Oct. 27 and Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. in the Strayer-Wood Theatre on the University of Northern Iowa campus.
Winner of the 2015 L.A. Drama Critics Circle playwriting award, Ryan’s play is a timely portrayal of the unexpected. How does a family move forward after a 10-year-old boy accidentally shoots and kills his 9-year-old brother after discovering a seemingly unloaded gun? Is a moment in time erased? Or does life move forward one messy step at a time? Six years later, the boy is back home and a family strives for a sense of normalcy. However, a social worker arrives to determine whether or not the boy should be taken off probation and to ultimately discover, today is not a normal day.
The production is directed by associate professor Steve Taft. Scenic design is by Katrina Sandvik and costume design is by associate professor Amy S. RohrBerg. Lighting design is by Ron Koinzan, Theatre UNI technical director. The production stage manager is Brandon Clark.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for UNI faculty/staff and tickets are free for UNI students with their UNI ID card. Tickets can be purchased from any UNItix location. The Strayer-Wood box office opens one hour before curtain time.
