UNI Center for Violence Prevention receives donation for student internships in victim services and prevention

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa Center for Violence Prevention received a donation from O. Jay and Patricia Tomson to provide financial support to students undertaking internships with agencies and community organizations that offer services for victims of sexual, domestic and family violence, prevention training and professional development, advocacy and policy development.

“This generous gift will enhance UNI students’ internship opportunities and have a positive impact on Iowa’s schools, neighborhoods and communities,” said Center director, Alan Heisterkamp.

Multiple members of O. Jay and Pat Tomson’s family are UNI alums. Pat Tomson received a master’s degree in counseling from UNI and worked as a therapist and advocate for families experiencing childhood sexual abuse.
