CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa Gallery of Art will present the "Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) Group Exhibition" from Monday, April 23, through Saturday, May 5. An opening reception will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, April 23, in the south lobby of the Kamerick Art Building (KAB).
Eden Bell of Fairfield is presenting an exhibition titled "Sugar Coat." According to Bell, the work "combines bright colors and soft shapes with deep, thought-provoking words and images. The exhibition features vibrant plexiglas, colorful paintings and video performance with feminist messages that do not hold back."
Rylie Lawrence of Des Moines is presenting a printmaking exhibition. In the exhibition titled "Carry On," her subject matter is sourced from experiences in the everyday, and it is through the contemplation and reflection on these interactions and ideas that she is drawn to the creation of abstracted, multi-media works.
Rachael "Ray" Smith of Eagle Grove is presenting a painting exhibition titled "Fuzzy." Smith says, "Eclectic and autobiographic, my work is always pertaining to the now. It never sits still and is usually reflective of recent events or referencing momentous events of the personal past. It deals directly with the word itself. Uncomfortable and vague, it alludes to something that requires it to be more than it is, as if there is something missing from itself."
In addition to these student exhibits, the UNI Permanent Art Collection exhibition "Women as Makers" will remain on view in the gallery during this time. Co-curated by Elizabeth Sutton and gallery director Darrell Taylor, the exhibition features artwork by Elisabeth Frink, Akane Kirimura, Käthe Kollwitz, Berenice Abbott, Marjorie Nuhn and Ruth Roach. Also presented are historical objects on loan from the UNI Museum.
All events are free and open to the public. The gallery is located on the main floor of the KAB and its hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday; noon to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday; and by appointment.
