UNI hosts metal casting workshop for high school teachers

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa will host a metal casting curriculum development workshop for high school teachers Monday, June 17, through Friday, June 21. The majority of the workshop will be held on the UNI campus. On Thursday, June 20, participants will be given tours of the John Deere Foundry in Waterloo, Viking Pump in Cedar Falls and ATEK Foundry in New Hampton.

Aside from the tours, the workshop will provide participants with an introduction to metal casting with an emphasis on process control and equipment maintenance; a two-day professional introduction and general overview of the metal casting process provided by the Cast Metals Institute (CMI); an introduction to further academic opportunities though the UNI metal casting program; and a developmental workshop on curriculum development.
