UNI School of Music to host Trombones de Costa Rica concert

CEDAR FALLS, IowaThe University of Northern Iowa School of Music will host a concert performance by guest ensemble Trombones de Costa Rica at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 3, in Bengtson Auditorium inside Russell Hall on the UNI campus.

 Winners of the Costa Rican National Award of Music in 1997 and the City of Passau’s Special Prize in Germany in 1999, Trombones de Costa Rica is an innovative and virtuosic brass ensemble featuring Martín Bonilla, Luis Fred, Leonel Rodríguez, Iván Chinchilla and Alejandro Gutiérrez. The ensemble has also commissioned works from composers around the world. During their visit to UNI, the group will perform standard classical and Costa Rican music.

 The Trombones de Costa Rica visit will also include a master class at 4 p.m. in Bengtson Auditorium on Feb. 3. The appearance of the group is sponsored in part by the UNI School of Music and the Northern Iowa Student Government. Both the master class and concert are free and open to the public.
