UNI to honor former UNI President J.W. Maucker

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa will honor former UNI President J.W. 'Bill' Maucker, with a special memorial event at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 16, in Maucker Union's Old Central Ballroom. The event is open to the public.

Maucker, who died in July at age 92, spent two decades at UNI's helm receiving among his numerous honors, the Alexander Meiklejohn Award for Academic Freedom. The University Union opened in 1969 and was named the J.W. Maucker University Union in his honor, in 1974. Parking is available in the visitor lot north of the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, or valet parking at the circle drive of Maucker Union.
