UNI to host 'quintessential American sportswriter' Bob Ryan

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Bob Ryan, retired sports writer for the Boston Globe and regular contributor for ESPN's "Around the Horn" sports roundtable discussion show, will give a presentation titled "Bob Ryan: You Know Me From Television, But When I Look in the Mirror, I See a Writer" at the University of Northern Iowa at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 25, in the McLeod Center's Alumni Suite.

Ryan has been referred to as "the quintessential American sportswriter" and a guru of basketball. He retired from the Globe in 2012, but continues to report and appear on ESPN and other programs. He also has his own podcast, "Bob Ryan's Boston Podcast."

His presentation is part of the Hearst Lecture Series presented by the College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences and the Department of Communication Studies. This event is free and open to the public.
