Denny Reimer

Denny Reimer was as UNI proud as an individual could get. From his enrollment in the first class of elementary students at the Malcolm Price Laboratory School through his retirement from UNI, he was truly a lifelong Panther. 

“He just loved UNI,” his wife, Janet, recalled to the UNI Foundation. “From time to time, I’d say to Denny, ‘Don’t you ever think of anything else?’ ‘No, not really,’ he’d laugh.”

Reimer grew up a block away from the University of Northern Iowa’s campus and attended the attached schools – Malcolm Price Laboratory School and State College High. He then attended UNI, graduating in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and physics, followed by a master’s in communication and media studies in 1977.

He spent 47 years with UNI, working in the IT department and serving as a media specialist for the Panther football team for more than 20 years. For any film that was watched by the football team, Reimer was often behind it. 

His former coworkers wasted no time sharing their appreciation for Reimer. 

“He was a wonderful colleague who truly believed in the team, the institution, and its mission,” said Rick Seeley, director of UNI educational technology and media services. “He cared about the people around him, valued his team, and was always willing to step in and help with anything that came his way.”

Keith Kennedy, director of football technology, echoed similar sentiments. “We miss Denny, he was a great coworker. He was very dedicated to UNI and would help you with anything you needed.”

Even after he retired, Reimer continued assisting the IT department in setting up classrooms for the upcoming school year and filming football games.

After he passed in 2023, his wife Janet established scholarships in his honor, including the Denny & Janet Reimer Endowed Mathematics Scholarship offered to math students and the Dennis Reimer Football Volunteer Scholarship that supports student-athletes/volunteers.
