Butter sculpture of Kurt Warner to appear at Iowa State Fair

What do Kurt Warner, Elvis Presley and John Wayne have in common? They all have or soon will have a likeness made in butter alongside the iconic Butter Cow at the Iowa State Fair.

That’s right, one Iowa icon will meet another when the fair, where “Nothing Compares” will feature Warner, a 1993 UNI alum,  as one of the Butter Cow’s three 2023 companions. Butter sculptor Sarah Pratt and her apprentices will craft the butter version of Warner alongside Jack Trice and Caitlin Clark, with each Butter Cow companion representing one of the three Regent universities in Iowa.

Enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2017, Warner was named the MVP of Super Bowl XXXIV as he led the St. Louis Rams to their first Super Bowl title in his initial season as their starting quarterback in 1999. He would go on to lead the Rams to another Super Bowl appearance in 2001 and guided the Arizona Cardinals to their first-ever trip to the NFL’s Championship Game following the 2008 season. Warner was a two-time NFL MVP and was selected to four Pro Bowls.

Since graduating from UNI, Warner has maintained a close relationship with the university, including serving alongside his wife Brenda as VIPs of the 2022 Homecoming Parade and Our Tomorrow campaign launch festivities.

His illustrious football career was chronicled in the 2021 film “American Underdog.”

While you're at the fair, be sure to stop by the UNI booth in the Varied Industries building.
