CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The UNI Department of Theatre is thrilled to announce a full four-show lineup for TheatreUNI’s 2024-2025 season, which includes a range of productions for every theatrical taste.

“Coming off its most successful season in a decade, TheatreUNI is excited to share this season filled with beauty, mystery, music and magic,” said William Hickman, head of the Department of Theatre and artistic director of TheatreUNI.

The season begins with “Ordinary Days” (Oct. 4-13) a musical set in New York City that follows four young people searching for love, fulfillment and friendship. This production highlights how our lives connect in the most amazing ways, and features a bit of everything – music, humor and emotion.

Next up is “The Tempest” (Nov. 7-10) by William Shakespeare. This classic tale features revenge, shipwrecks, magical spirits, young love, conniving brothers, forgiveness, redemption and change. TheatreUNI’s production, featuring magic and live music, will focus on making this classic text accessible to all audiences.

During the spring semester, TheatreUNI will present “Gretel! The Musical” (March 6-9). Geared towards young audiences and their families, this musical retelling of an old fairy tale is centered around youth empowerment and finding forgiveness in the midst of powerful sorrow, featuring folk and rock music to capture the darkness and humor of Gretel’s journey. The department is excited to partner with Iowa native and Chicago-based international scenic designer, Eleanor Kahn, who will serve as the guest scenic designer on this production.

For its final production of the season, TheatreUNI will present “Airness” (April 17-27) by Chelsea Marcantel. “Airness” is a comedy about love, friendship, finding yourself and most importantly, air guitar. This play promises a rocking good time and features songs by Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, REO Speedwagon, Billy Idol and more.

Tickets go on sale Wednesday, Aug. 14. Show details are available at theatreuni.uni.edu and tickets can be purchased online at unitix.uni.edu or at the box office in Strayer-Wood Theatre on the UNI campus.
