UNI Department of Art students present BFA group exhibition

Sprig 2023 BF ExhibitionCEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa Gallery of Art will present the spring 2023 Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) group exhibition from Monday, April 24, through Friday, May 5. An opening reception will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, April 24, in the south lobby of the Kamerick Art Building (KAB).

The exhibition will feature works from five students: 

Jenna Lou Jansen of Elkader, Iowa, will present an exhibition titled “Pink Training Wheels.”  Jansen is a multidisciplinary artist specializing in oil painting and performance art. Her BFA exhibition touches on her experiences performing femininity and the ways she has been indoctrinated into womanhood.

Jules Marie Hammerand of Dubuque, Iowa, will present an exhibition titled “unearthed and arranged.” Hammerand is a mixed media artist, working predominantly with oil painting and sculptural installation. Her BFA exhibition is a personal exploration of the self through eclectic fragmentation. 

Madeline LeRoy of La Porte City, Iowa, will present an exhibition titled “Who am I?” LeRoy is a mixed media visual artist who tells surreal stories with vibrant color and compelling portraits. Step into LeRoy’s world in her ‘Who am I?’ BFA Exhibition where you will see a glimpse of both complete fantasy and reality in the form of paintings, self-portraits and digital prints!

Summer Weed of Cedar Falls, Iowa, will present an exhibition titled “unpacking.” Weed is a multimedia artist specializing in printmaking. They create art about mental health and navigating life as a neurodivergent person.

Taylor Lee Rachel Sullivan of Cedar Falls, Iowa, will present an exhibition titled “IT’S WHERE THE GIRL ENDS AND THE WOMAN BEGIN.” Sullivan is a senior at UNI receiving her BFA in performance art and sculpture. In her upcoming BFA exhibition, she will be examining the relationship between automatism and femininity by utilizing childhood toys, found objects and the color pink.

All events are free and open to the public. The gallery is located on the main floor of the KAB, and its hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
