UNI School of Music faculty artist Randall Harlow releases new album

Randall Harlow, professor of organ and music theory in the UNI School of Music, recently released a new album titled, "HOLY!" A celebration of the 25th anniversary of UNI's Helmuth Wolff organ in Jebe Hall, the album features performances with UNI professors Ann Bradfield, saxophone; Mathhew Andreini, percussion; and John Wiles, conducting the UNI Concert Chorale. Additionally, professor Daniel Swilley composed a new work specifically for the album, "MacDougal Street.". It also includes world premiere recordings of "Underworld" by Henry Brant, the new organ version of Jacob TV's iconic composition, "Grab It!"
Speaking about the album, Harlow noted. "HOLY! is a musical sermon on the beatitudes, an artistic rebuke of the ongoing rise of fascism and the deep moral crisis around us that enables it. It weaves together organ works by William Albright, Henry Brant, Sofia Gubaidulina, Olivier Messiaen, Arvo Pärt, Elliot Sokolov, Daniel Swilley and Jacob TV with archival recordings of readings by Allen Ginsburg, William S. Burroughs and Jack Kerouac into a tapestry of words and music that expresses the moral imperatives of compassion, mercy and humility."
Harlow continued, "HOLY! is presented as a single, continuous work of organ art meant to be experienced uninterrupted from the beginning to end. I invite you to immerse yourself in the journey of subtext, intertext and metatext that emerges from the sonic fabric of organ music and beat literature!"
