CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The 74th annual Sinfonian Dimensions in Jazz concerts will be held on the UNI campus on Feb. 20 and 21. Concerts will be performed at 7 p.m. on both nights in Bengtson Auditorium, Russell Hall. These widely celebrated jazz performances are included as part of the 69th annual Tallcorn Jazz Festival.

Tallcorn Jazz Festival is the oldest continuously running high school jazz festival in the nation. This year’s guest artist, bassist, composer, arranger and producer, John Clayton is a busy man. He is a Grammy winner with nine additional nominations and has written and/or recorded with artists such as Milt Jackson, Diana Krall, Paul McCartney, Regina Carter, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Gladys Knight, Queen Latifah, McCoy Tyner, YoYo Ma and Charles Aznavour, to name only a few. Clayton was the principal bassist in the Amsterdam Philharmonic Orchestra (The Netherlands) from 1980 to 1984. In 1986, John co-founded the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and rekindled The Clayton Brothers Quintet. In addition to his individual clinics and workshops, he also directs the educational components of Centrum, The Port Townsend Jazz Festival, and the Vail Jazz Workshop.

The UNI School of Music Jazz Band One will also perform with Clayton under the direction of Director of Jazz Studies Christopher Merz, and Jazz Band Two will open the concerts under the direction of UNI faculty artist and director Michael Conrad.

Both concerts are ticketed. For more information visit tallcornjazzfest.com, or to order tickets call the GBPAC Box Office at (319) 273-4849 or visit unitix.evenue.net/events/TJF
