Doug Schwab named NWCA National Coach of the Year

UNI head wrestling coach Doug Schwab has been named the National Wrestling Coaches Association's Division I Men's National Coach of the Year. Schwab, who is in his 15th season as the leader of the Northern Iowa wrestling program, is the first Panther coach to earn the honor.
"I'm grateful for this recognition, especially when it's from your peers. There are so many great coaches out there... so many guys that are impacting lives. I don’t take that lightly."
“I don’t think this should be Coach of the Year," Schwab continued. “It’s Staff of the Year, because you don’t do it alone. I have an incredible staff, who puts tireless amount of hours into these men. They pour into them. They are bought into the vision that we have, and they sacrifice so much. A piece of this is theirs too, because you can’t do it alone.”
Schwab went on to be named the Big 12 Conference Wrestling Coach of the Year. This is the second time he has earned this honor in his career after previously being recognized in 2020.
Schwab resides in Cedar Falls with his wife, Allyson and their four children, Hayden, Hendrix, Jenna and Lennon.
