Keeping cool: Know your campus resources during excessive heat

As we look ahead to the first week of classes, the weather forecast is predicting high heat and humidity Sunday through Thursday. This will result in temperatures reaching at or near the 100 degree mark, with heat indices rising above 100 degrees.

With these high temperatures, we want to make you aware of available resources on campus and extra precautions you can take. 

Precautionary Measures:

  • Limit outdoor activities (especially in the afternoon)
  • Drink plenty of water and carry a water bottle
  • Avoid direct sunlight where possible, utilize the shade if outside
  • Make time to utilize air-conditioned spaces across campus (see below)

Where to Escape the Heat on Campus:

  • Dorm lounges are air conditioned and available 24/7
  • Redeker Center is available from 6:00am - Midnight (Hagemann, Noehren, Rider and Shull residents have 24/7 access)
  • Towers Center is available from 7:00am - 10:00pm (Bender and Dancer residents have 24/7 access)
  • Both Piazza and Rialto dining centers are accessible throughout the day and evening to study, hang out and recharge - HOURS
  • Wellness and Recreation Center (WRC) is available to hang out and recharge - HOURS
  • Rod Library has private study rooms, group study rooms, comfy social spaces and the Book Bistro coffee shop - HOURS
  • Maucker Union upper level is open 24/7 Sunday - Thursday, access via your UNI ID at the NE entrance nearest the CME - HOURS
