CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – “Panthers on Parade” will take center stage as the theme of this year’s University of Northern Iowa homecoming parade on Saturday, Oct. 26 in downtown Cedar Falls. The 2024 parade theme builds upon the vibrant and creative community project featuring representations of UNI's TC mascot across the Cedar Valley.

“We are excited to bring the community together once again for the UNI homecoming parade," said Pete Moris, director of University Relations at UNI. "The creative statues located at area businesses show the strength, creativity and unity of our entire Panther family. Elevating the Panthers on Parade into our parade theme not only symbolizes the strong partnership between Cedar Falls and UNI, but it’s the perfect theme to connect everyone who proudly wears the purple and gold."

“Cedar Falls is an amazing community to call home, in part because of the countless individuals who have attended UNI, experienced the area, and ultimately decided to plant roots here,” said Cedar Falls Mayor Danny Laudick, a 2013 UNI graduate. “These are individuals who contribute both their time and passion into making Cedar Falls the place it is today. And this celebration, in bringing together UNI alumni, as well as their families and current students, is a perfect opportunity to show how together we are all proudly Panthers on Parade.”

The theme originates from the Panthers on Parade community project, which was spearheaded by Cedar Falls Tourism & Visitors Bureau in partnership with UNI. More than two dozen statues, each uniquely embellished by local artists, showcase the spirit and pride of UNI, making them a perfect centerpiece for the homecoming festivities.

"It has been so exciting to see the community and visitors embrace Panthers on Parade! We look forward to welcoming UNI alumni back to Cedar Falls for homecoming and know they will enjoy visiting the embellished TCs across the area," said Jennifer Pickar, Cedar Falls Tourism & Cultural Programs Manager.

UNI is excited to once again partner with Community Main Street and KWWL to celebrate what it means to be a Panther. In addition to the homecoming parade, festivities will take place throughout the week of Oct. 21-26, featuring fun for the entire Panther family.

We look forward to sharing more information about all the exciting homecoming events, and you can follow along on our homecoming website.
