Public Book and Media Sale

Public Book and Media Sale

Help Rod Library make room for exciting new projects – and go home with some great reading and listening! Rod Library is having a huge book and music sale just in time for your holiday shopping. On Saturday December 3 from noon to 4:00pm visit the Schindler lobby to choose from a wide assortment of children’s and young adult books, plus hundreds of LP records and a few CDs and music scores. There will be a pre-sale on Friday December 2 from 4:00 to 6:00 for local K-12 educators.

Where are these books coming from?  The Library has embarked on a large-scale project - called the TEACH project - to elevate its support for teacher education at UNI by developing a hub for teacher education and classroom experimentation that will be housed fully in Schindler. The first step of this project focused on combining our youth literature collections. Collection development and maintenance is a core practice in libraries. By combining these collections, cutting down on duplication, and aligning our holdings with the needs and interests of UNI students and our community, we can keep popular items available while also making it easier to discover great books!

Many of the books for sale are duplicate copies or are outside the scope of our newly combined collection, and they are looking for new homes in. classrooms, homes, local youth collections, little free libraries, personal collections, art projects, etc. Read more about the TEACH project here: TEACH Project | Rod Library (uni.edu)! Where are the LPs coming from?  The music sale includes LPs that no longer fit the scope of our collection. Much of this music is now available on CD or other streaming services provided by the library.
