Following her death in 2019, a memorial fund was established in memory of Micalla "KK" Rettinger. Micalla graduated from UNI with a degree in biology in 2016.

She was an outstanding outfielder for the UNI Panther Softball team, earning Second-Team Missouri Valley All-Conference honors her junior and senior seasons and led UNI in hits her senior year. Tragically, Micalla was killed on April 28 in a shooting in Waterloo, Iowa.
