Student-athlete Olivia Chambers becomes UNI’s first para-swimming national champion
University of Northern Iowa swimmer Olivia Chambers won a gold and bronze medal at the Paralympic National Championships over the weekend, making her UNI’s first-ever para-swimming national champion. Chambers, who is legally blind, also earned the most points of any swimmer at the competition, earning her the title of Swimmer of the Meet.
Chambers won the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4:34.30 and came in third in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:08.19. Both times were career bests for Chambers.
