UNI goes Hollywood at purple carpet premiere of “The College Tour”

Lights, camera, “The College Tour!” The University of Northern Iowa hosted nearly 100 people at a premiere party in the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center on Feb. 8 for UNI’s first time on the big screen. The special premiere event gave audience members in the theater and watching at home via live stream an opportunity to watch UNI featured on the streaming series “The College Tour” for the very first time.

All 10 stars of the episode were in attendance with their friends and families to see the results of the segments filmed in fall 2022. Guests also enjoyed purple and gold treats and took photos with the UNI-themed balloon arch and display during the pre-premiere party.

“That was really good footage of me,” joked UNI sophomore Ethan Ahrens, who documented his hands-on experience in UNI’s digital media production major in the episode.

“I was just in awe of how the episode turned out,” said junior Diamond Roundtree, who used her segment to discuss finding a supportive community on campus. “It made me proud to represent UNI even more.”

Created by Emmy-nominated and multi-award-winning producers, “The College Tour” gives viewers an up-close look at colleges and universities all around the country. The series is featured on Amazon Prime where the episode will premiere in May. Each student’s segment is now featured on the UNI website

Pete Moris, director of University Relations, emceed February’s premiere event. Alex Boylan, host of “The College Tour” also introduced the 30-minute episode in a special pre-recorded video.

“My team and I had a fantastic time in the Cedar Valley and especially on the UNI campus in Cedar Falls,” said Boylan. “We asked students to tell their stories in their own words, and we were so impressed by how consistently we heard themes like ‘professors legitimately care about my success,’ ‘this really is a supportive community’ and ‘I’m confident because of the experiences I’ve had at UNI.’”
