UNI intramural programming earns its first-ever national award
You can take on some of the most exciting and inventive intramural activities in the country at UNI.
The Aqua Olympics, coming up Sunday, March 2, led UNI Recreation Services to win the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association Campus Rec Innovative Programming Award in the special event category. It’s the first award of its kind for UNI Recreation Services, chosen from more than 4,000 institutions in the country who qualified to apply.
The Campus Rec Innovative Programming Award recognizes the work happening in recreation centers that is instrumental to student success, building community and sharing the important message of health and well-being.
In the Aqua Olympics, co-ed teams of four participate in raft races, innertube water polo, H2O volleyball and a waterslide speed challenge. The inaugural event was held more than 25 years ago.
"I had a blast at the After Hours Aqua Olympics!” said Grant Hospodarsky, a senior majoring in digital media and production. “My group and I were unsure what the night held, and we were pleasantly surprised with the competitions and activities we were able to participate in."
Recreation Services will be collaborating with the Campus Activities Board and Student Engagement to bring the event to life. Entries for the spring Aqua Olympics are due February 27.
