UNI launches “UNI Together” one-minute video competition

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Got a knack for short videos? The University of Northern Iowa is inviting students, alumni, faculty and staff to share UNI stories through a new creative competition called “UNI Together.”
Created by Francesca Soans, professor in UNI’s Department of Communication and Media, the UNI Together competition encourages the community to submit original one-minute videos reflecting their UNI experiences.
Take your viral video skills and create content responding to one of five prompts:
- A Memorable Beginning – a new experience, fresh start or transformation
- A UNI Dish to Die For (or by) – food, shared meals or creative recipes
- The Wrong Place at the Right Time – unexpected or serendipitous moments
- Ghosts of UNI Future – imaginative visions of the future, from utopia to apocalypse
- A Memorable End – closure, goodbyes and transitions
“UNI’s sesquicentennial provides us with an opportunity to reflect on the university’s rich history and service. But it is also an opportunity to feature the comic, the heartfelt, the unexpected and the extraordinary,” said Soans. “This competition unites all of UNI, past and present—its students, staff, faculty, and administrators.”
Submissions can be submitted via the link 150.uni.edu/video and are due by May 31. Finalists and award winners will be screened during the culmination of the UNI Sesquicentennial Celebration, coinciding with UNI Homecoming Week, October 4-10.
The competition is supported by the UNI Department of Communication and Media and the UNI Sesquicentennial Steering Committee.
