While many things were unusual about the past year in sports, UNI’s tradition of excellence on and off the playing field remains unchanged. 

In a tremendously exciting weekend for UNI Athletics, three coaches achieved major career milestones. Saturday began with football coach Mark Farley becoming the first Missouri Valley Football Conference coach to win 100 Valley games, it was his 160th overall win. Farley is the leader in both MVFC and UNI wins. Later that evening in Normal, Illinois, basketball coach Ben Jacobson won his 300th game in a double overtime victory over Illinois State.

Sunday afternoon found the UNI men’s track and field team winning their second consecutive conference championship with head coach Dave Paulsen.This comes as another major milestone in UNI’s track and field/cross country program, which has won a total of five conference championships over the past five years. 

Other notable achievements this spring include women’s volleyball coach Bobbi Petersen winning her 510th game, an all-time Missouri Valley Conference record, and women’s basketball coach Tanya Warren winning her 250th game.

The athletic action will continue this week with Arch Madness and a home football game against No. 15 Illinois State and wrestling conference championships all on the docket for this weekend.
