UNI names new executive director for Housing & Dining

After a national search, the University of Northern Iowa has named Nick Rafanello executive director of Housing & Dining at UNI. He will begin his new role on May 1.

“With a rich history of building collaborative working relationships and effective community building in residential environments, Nick brings a broad level of expertise to the position,” said Michael Hager, UNI senior vice president of finance and operations. “Housing & Dining operations have been steadily improving and Nick is well positioned to keep the positive trajectory of helping students succeed.”

Rafanello has been with UNI since 2013 and is currently director of residence life. In his new role, he will oversee all programs, services and facilities of the Housing & Dining system, including the ongoing development of residence halls, dining centers, retail operations and catering services.

"I am looking forward to leading a strong team within Housing and Dining at UNI.  With a rich history focused on student success, I am excited to continue building upon the strong residential and dining experience," said Rafanello.

Rafanello holds a doctorate in educational leadership from UNI, and will bring more than 14 years of higher education experience to the executive director role. He previously worked in the housing and residence life departments at Ball State University and Indiana University.
