Take the purple bag challenge this Earth Day
UNI Facilities Management is teaming up with the Iowa Waste Reduction Center, the Student Sustainability Advisory Board, and students in the Introduction to Environmental Earth Science class to launch a new Earth Day initiative: the Purple Bag Challenge.
The goal? To clean up campus and the surrounding areas—and keep our Panther home beautiful.
Volunteers can pick up purple bags and gloves from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, outside Maucker Union. Once full, bags can be returned to the Maucker Union plaza later that day or the following morning.
“This is a low-cost, high-impact project,” said Jonathan Butler, assistant director of campus services with UNI Facilities Management. “We hope to see people take on the Purple Bag Challenge on Earth Day, and continue to keep UNI beautiful throughout the year.”
Organizers hope to tally up the total weight of collected materials to show the impact of the cleanup, so every bag counts!
