UNI’s women’s and gender studies major has a path to many industries
Cultivating social change is at the core of everything you learn while pursuing a Master of Arts in Women’s & Gender Studies (WGS) at the University of Northern Iowa. Through the carefully crafted curriculum, you’ll learn about feminist theory and gender-focused research while gaining real hands-on experience.
Wendy Hoofnagle, who directs WGS at UNI, can attest to the program’s versatility. Whether the area is the social sciences, STEM, the humanities or something else entirely, she believes she can always find a way to apply a women’s and gender studies degree. “The things you learn about social justice, about gender and sexuality development or just how people think and tick here can be applied to just about any other discipline,” said Hoofnagle. You can clearly see this in the vast array of careers like field organizer and sexual assault advocate that are held by alumni of the program.
The women's and gender studies program at UNI provides diverse disciplines to accommodate your individual interests.
Another major benefit of the women’s and gender studies program at UNI is its size. Because it’s smaller, everyone gets to know each other well and develops a family-like bond. This is true of both the faculty and the students. You’ll find that even your professors care about you beyond your academic work.
From the impact you’ll make to the friends you’ll gain along the way, there are so many fantastic reasons to pursue a women’s and gender studies degree at the University of Northern Iowa. If you want to learn more about the program, visit csbs.uni.edu/womenstudies.
