UNI announces new details on in-person spring commencement
University of Northern Iowa announced new details about the upcoming in-person spring commencement, including that graduates participating in the ceremonies in May will be allowed to bring up to four guests to celebrate their achievements.
In order to safely accommodate everyone, only ticketed guests will be allowed to enter the three separate ceremonies on May 7 and 8 at the UNI-Dome. Social distancing and face masks are required and those guidelines will be enforced to help make this event safe for everyone. CDC guidelines require masks to be worn at public events even by those who have been fully vaccinated.
A virtual commencement will still be held that weekend and spring 2021 graduates can take part in both events.
Doors will open one hour prior to the ceremony. Guests should enter the doors on the west side of the UNI-Dome and display their ticket (either in a printed version or on their mobile device). Graduates will enter at the west door of the plaza between the McLeod Center and the UNI-Dome.
Professional photos will be taken after the graduate walks across the stage. The event will also be livestreamed for those who cannot attend.
In the virtual commencement celebration, there will be congratulatory videos from the president, provost, student government president, UNI Alumni Association, faculty, as well as a student speaker that has been selected by their respective college as a commencement speaker.
