UNI planning for summer construction projects
The University of Northern Iowa is planning for summer construction projects, which in addition to regular maintenance, will pave the way for new academic programs and development for generations of students to come.
One example of this work is the progress underway at the Applied Engineering Building (AEB). The continuing work will update and expand the AEB to meet the needs of today’s students and prepare them for success in an Industry 4.0 workforce. You can view a live stream of this work on YouTube.
Another space in development for future students is work at the Innovative Teaching and Technology Center (ITTC) to prepare clinical space for UNI’s new Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, which will accept its first students in fall 2024. The program will take shape in the top floor of the ITTC, with phase one of construction underway until next May.
Most recently UNI has been celebrating the return of new and refurbished bells to the Campanile. This renovation is slated through the end of June and will also include upgrades to the Campanile plaza. The updates are made possible due to the generous donations to the Our Tomorrow campaign.
Another piece of the campaign is a renovation and expansion of the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, which will break ground on June 8. Orchestral level seating replacement will take place in the months of May and June. Overall, the nearly $15 million project will also include a new lounge, expanded ticket office and concession area.
There are projects this summer that may disrupt the way you’re used to traveling around campus. For example, West 27th Street near the McLeod Center will be closed while the City of Cedar Falls conducts road repairs. Panther Parkway and a portion of parking lots near the area will also be closed to allow for steam tunnel repairs.
