How donor support powers campus dialogue

How donor support powers campus dialogue

Across the University of Northern Iowa, donor-funded lecture series are creating transformative learning experiences by bringing renowned scholars, thought leaders and professionals to campus. Thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends, these lectures spark curiosity, enrich classroom learning, foster interdisciplinary dialogue and challenge students to see the world through new lenses.

Bill and Linda Tubbs Teaching Connections Lecture Series

Made possible by the generosity of alumnus Linda Tubbs, '69, and her late husband Bill, this series supports professional development in the College of Education. Each year, it brings nationally recognized education scholars to campus, advancing evidence-based practices and inspiring faculty, students, and school leaders.

Quote: “Bill and I wanted to create something that would inspire future educators, prepare them for that time when they are in classrooms and let them know they are appreciated. As a former educator myself, I want to give UNI an A+ for the phenomenal speakers and topics they’ve explored through the series.”
– Linda Tubbs, '69

Carlton-Mellichamp Lecture in Education

The Carlton-Mellichamp Lecture in Education, sponsored by Suzanne (Carlton), ‘63, and Duncan Mellichamp, allows the UNI College of Education to annually host a nationally-recognized scholar in the field of education, educational psychology or health and human services. The series stimulates the dissemination, public scrutiny and implementation of ideas with the potential to bring about significant improvement in professional practice and educator preparation. In addition to presenting public lectures, visiting scholars participate in small-group dialogues with UNI faculty and students.

Leland Wilson Chemistry Lecture

Established by Dr. Mary Sue and Ken Coleman, this annual lecture brings nationally recognized scientists to campus for a day of discovery. Honoring longtime UNI chemistry professor Leland Wilson, Mary Sue’s father, the event has made a tremendous impact on campus since it was first held in 1997.
