CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – For its first production of the 2026-27 season, themed “Wonderings and Wanderings,” TheatreUNI will present a high‑energy, Jazz Age, 90-minute production of William Shakespeare's romantic comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream."

Set in 1920s New York, the city’s sleek Art Deco façade gives way to a wild, magical “forest” where rules bend, identities shift, and desire refuses to behave. Fueled by jazz, dancing, urban enchantment, and metamorphosis, this fast‑moving production exposes the tensions simmering beneath a modern age racing toward progress. 

Public performances will be held Oct. 2, 3 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 4 and 10 at 2 p.m. All performances will take place in the Strayer-Wood Theatre on the University of Northern Iowa campus.

Assistant Professor of Instruction Kendra Kahl will direct the play, with assistant direction by student Sophia Adkins. Original composition by UNI graduate student Trey Blaser; Scenic and props design by Associate Professor Mark A. Parrott; costume design by guest artist and 2026 TheatreUNI alum Hannah Pratt; lighting design by guest artist Thomas White; and stage management by student Paige Winkelman.

Tickets are $24 and can be purchased through unitix.uni.edu, at the UNItix counter in the Gallagher-Bluedorn. Tickets will also be on sale at the Strayer-Wood box office the week of the show.
