The University of Northern Iowa Foundation is making giving back easier than ever. Through a new enhancement to its online giving form, donors can now contribute directly from their donor-advised funds (DAFs) using an integrated DAFpay feature.

Powered by GiveCampus, this functionality streamlines the giving process for those who prefer to use their DAFs, offering a secure, efficient and tax-friendly way to support UNI’s mission.

Jane Halverson, senior director of gift and legacy planning at UNI, emphasized the value of DAFs in long-term philanthropic planning.

“Donor-advised funds are a powerful tool for alumni and friends who want to make a lasting impact,” Halverson said. “They offer flexibility, immediate tax benefits and the ability to support UNI on a timeline that fits each donor’s goals. With the addition of DAFpay, we’re making it even easier for donors to align their giving with their financial planning.”

Think of a DAF as a charitable investment account. You can contribute assets—cash, stocks and more—receive an immediate tax deduction, and then recommend grants to your favorite nonprofits over time. Even better, those funds can grow tax-free, helping future gifts go further.

DAFs continue to grow in popularity, especially among donors seeking to simplify their giving while maximizing impact.

Chad Rinehart, a 2007 UNI graduate and longtime supporter, recently used the DAFpay option to give back to his alma mater, sharing that the process couldn’t have been easier. For those considering establishing a donor-advised fund, Rinehart offered his perspective.

“I highly recommend using a DAF for those who have the means,” Rinehart said. “I find it is an efficient way to donate to causes and not have to keep track of receipts to turn in at the end of the year.”
