Hunting for ghosts at UNI
Did you know UNI may have at least two ghosts? Zelda and Augie are said to roam the halls of campus, sometimes even being spotted by students.
Zelda first came on the scene in 1963 in Lang Hall, but moved over to Strayer-Wood Theatre when it was built in 1978 where she has been haunting inhabitants ever since. Zelda is known as a kindhearted ghost.
Students and alumni say they’ve felt the ghost’s presence. “I was the last one in the theater and was walking to one of the basement stairwells when I heard piano playing. I went to tell whoever was playing the piano I was locking up, but when I turned the corner, it [stopped] and no one was there,” said Instagram user Katherine Marie, recalling an experience in 2009. “The only two ways out were by me or a heavy loud door at the other end of the green room. No one. So it had to be Zelda.”
Augie joined Zelda on campus in 1977 when he altered the lettering on a bulletin board in Lawther Hall to say “Augie will return to haunt Bordeaux House.” Since then, there have been numerous sightings.
“When I lived in Lawther (2018) we were told Augie lived in the attic,” wrote Instagram user Taylor Brooks. “Now that that space has been renovated, I wonder if the residents up there have seen or heard anything.”
