IWRC’s Jennifer Trent to serve as the President of the U.S. Composting Council
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - With the start of a new year, the United States Composting Council (USCC) has announced the University of Northern Iowa Iowa Waste Reduction Center’s Jennifer Trent as its new Board of Directors President.
Jennifer Trent is a program manager at the Iowa Waste Reduction Center specializing in food waste reduction, composting and environmental assistance. She has been heavily involved in implementing and coordinating multiple food waste reduction efforts for the IWRC since 2012. Trent’s involvement with the USCC began in 2016, and she recently served as the organization's vice president.
“I took the compost training course (COTC) way back in 2016, and it was the best training I’ve ever received. It was then that I knew I wanted to be a part of it!” said Trent. “We need actionable solutions to organic waste rather than landfilling, and recycling it into compost helps the world all around - job growth, diversion of organic wastes, improved soil and water quality, carbon sequestration, erosion control, and greenhouse gas reductions are just a few benefits of the industry. I will work hard to continue the legacy of the USCC.”
The USCC is a robust, action-packed, forward-thinking organization that advances compost manufacturing, compost utilization and organics recycling to benefit its members, society and the environment. Trent will oversee and lead the USCC's Board of Directors, work hand-in-hand with the executive director and serve on the council's Executive, Finance, Nominations and Governance, and Chapter Advisory Committees.
UNI’s Iowa Waste Reduction Center has provided environmental services, including technical assistance and industry training, as well as research and development, for over 30 years. The IWRC is a part of the University of Northern Iowa's Business and Community Services which builds a better Iowa through hands-on technical assistance for economic and business development, entrepreneurship, environmental improvement and enhanced sustainability.
