The University of Northern Iowa is making it simpler to pursue the master’s degree or credential you’ve been dreaming about. From application to graduation, you will find the support you need to accomplish your continuing education goals. UNI has simplified the application for admission, requiring fewer materials and creating an easier, quicker process that saves working professionals valuable time.

UNI now offers an expanded selection of micro-credentials – including certificates and Iowa teaching endorsements – designed to meet the needs of learners seeking flexibility in achieving their educational goals. These targeted programs build focused skills in a condensed time frame, with opportunities to stack certificates into a master's degree. Students can start these programs as early as spring, earning certificates in high-demand areas such as special education, transformative education, strategic leadership and innovation, business fundamentals, learning technologies, and artificial intelligence.

Because students often return to school after years in the workforce, UNI has streamlined the process for earning credit for prior learning. A dedicated staff member reviews all credit for prior learning requests to ensure students receive appropriate credit, reduce costs and avoid repeating material they've already mastered on the job.

Affordability remains a top priority at UNI. Scholarships and graduate assistantships are available for both residential and online graduate programs, and students in an online program pay the same tuition rate, regardless of location. Additional scholarships are available for students applying to a high-need interest area, ensuring cost isn't a barrier to advancing your education.

“UNI is a regional comprehensive institution,” said Dean of the College of Graduate, Research and Online Education Stephanie Huffman. “Regional comprehensive institutions are built for access, creating pathways that ensure everyone has an opportunity. With the changes we’ve made, we’re expanding that access — opening doors for more people to reach their career goals, pursue their aspirations, and position themselves for long-term success.”

Free Graduate Application Week at UNI is being held Nov. 30 through Dec. 7, 2025. To take advantage of Free Graduate Application Week at UNI, use code GRD26 when you submit your application. This offer applies to UNI graduate programs currently accepting applications and is available to U.S. applicants only.
