Workshops focus on special education law & ethics
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Educators seeking to add to their understanding of legal and ethical standards for providing special education programs can earn graduate or undergraduate credit by attending workshops this spring and summer at the University of Northern Iowa.
Coordinated by UNI Online & Distance Education, this fully- online workshop is offered by the College of Education in collaboration with the Iowa State Education Association. Susan Etscheidt, PhD, a longtime scholar in the field and emeritus professor at UNI, leads the workshop. The synchronous (real-time) course will review the essential provisions of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) through presentations, readings and discussion forums.
Registrations are still being accepted for the February 3 and March 1 workshops, as well as the April 20 & 27 session; both will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Summer workshop dates are June 7, June 28 and July 12, 8 am. to 1 p.m., with registration opening in March. The formal class title is: SPED 4133/5133 Special Education Law and Professional Ethics. Cost ranges from $100/unit for ISEA members to $558 for graduate credit for non-members.
