Mary Ann Bolton, class of 1970, never forgot the positive impact of her experience at UNI. After a long and impactful career in librarianship and many endeavors into supporting libraries, she looked back to her academic roots to explore a way to give back. In 2017, she worked with the library to establish an endowment with a specific interest in using her gift to support and recognize undergraduate students’ research projects. She believes that recognizing undergraduates for their work can provide an important boost in academic confidence and  position them for continued success in their academic pursuits. Every year, the Mary Ann Bolton Undergraduate Research Award is given to three students whose work demonstrates excellence in research using library resources on a paper or project carried out under the guidance of a UNI faculty member.  We are excited to present this years awardees:

First Place, Lydia Berns-Schweingruber, "An Analysis of the Relationship Between K-12 Public Education Spending and Student Academic Achievement in Iowa."

Runner-up, Samantha Ehler, "Language Development and Poverty: Considerations and Applications for Speech-Language Pathologists."

Runner-up, Elizabeth Tulley, "Breaking the Marble Ceiling: Constructing Athena in Greek Thought."
