Annual Day at the Capitol will mark 150 years of UNI

This year’s UNI Day at the Capitol will carry special significance as the university marks 150 years since its founding. To commemorate the anniversary, a resolution will be read in both chambers of the Iowa Legislature on March 25, 2026, nearly 150 years to the day the legislation establishing UNI became law.

UNI Day at the Capitol is an annual opportunity for students and staff to showcase the university’s impact across Iowa.

Applied Engineering, highlighting in-demand degrees, hands-on learning and industry partnerships that lead to high career placement rates in areas of need.
Business and Community Services provides tailored economic development assistance to all 99 Iowa counties.
Center for Civic Education, promoting civic learning and preparing students to be informed, engaged citizens.
International programs, bringing students from more than 50 countries around the globe to the State of Iowa.
Neighboring State Rate, offering in-state tuition to new students from the six states bordering Iowa.
NISG, the central governing body for students at the University of Northern Iowa.
Nursing at UNI, featuring realistic simulation labs in maternity care, pediatric, med-surg and clinical settings, now in a completely renovated facility.
UNI@IACC and online programs, partnering with all of Iowa’s community colleges to create pathways to UNI bachelor’s degrees in high-demand fields.
Department of Political Science, preparing students for careers in criminal justice, public administration and political science, and home to the fully online Master of Public Policy program.
Teacher Education graduates more than 500 educators each year to teach in Iowa schools. Representatives will focus on the new Special and Inclusive Education major and elementary education degree in 3 pathways and online education.
