A transformative gift from the Gerdin Charitable Foundation will significantly enhance the University of Northern Iowa’s ability to train the next generation of elder care professionals working in the field of gerontology.
This semester, University of Northern Iowa students in the clinical mental health counseling graduate program had the opportunity to put their skills to work by facilitating support groups for caregivers of people with dementia.
UNI gerontology and the Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging have united to create a dementia simulation house that reduces stigma and increases empathy.
