UNI and AASCU lead national effort on educator preparation

In September, the UNI and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), a leading national higher education association based in Washington, D.C., released a comprehensive policy framework to revitalize the federal government’s role in educator preparation. The UNI-AASCU collaboration has been named the Project to Revitalize the Educator Preparation in America, or PREP America, in recognition of the need to develop new, meaningful solutions to longstanding challenges confronting America’s educators.

A sibling journey: Three-fourths of quadruplets find success at UNIBusiness

Iowa is a second home for siblings Luma, Al Faisal and Abdallah Yasin, who came to the Midwest in 2016 from Jordan, a country just east of Israel, to attend college. Even when Al Faisal leaves for his hometown in Jordan, he misses the distinct feeling of comfort the University of Northern Iowa provides.

Al Faisal, Luma and Abdallah make up three-fourths of a set of quadruplets. The fourth Yasin quadruplet is a medical student in Jordan. They also have two younger siblings who might come to the United States for college as well.

UNI advocates for funding for ITC renovation

UNI is seeking $39.7 million from the state legislature for a $43.9 million transformation of the ITC. The project includes an extensive renovation of existing spaces and facility expansion. The modernization project would allow the department to boost enrollment by 40%, from 500 to 700 students, to help meet Iowa’s workforce needs.

The University of Northern Iowa maintained its rank as the second-best regional public university in the "Best Regional Universities (Midwest)" category for the 18th consecutive year in the recently released 2020 U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges 2020” report.

The University of Northern Iowa was one of only seven colleges in the country this year to receive the Excellence in Assessment designation in recognition of its continual efforts to ensure the education it provides sets students up for success.

UNI reports fall enrollment, student success trends

In its official census day headcount, the University of Northern Iowa reported a total student population of 10,497, as well as a marked increase in a number of important areas including a record high four-year graduation rate.

While total enrollment is down from one year ago, the university began planning for the decrease in the early spring, making budget adjustments and working with the Board of Regents on a funding model to keep tuition rates steady.
