UNI Department of Theatre hosts renowned playwright

The University of Northern Iowa theater department will host the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage as part of the College of Humanities’ Arts and Sciences Hearst Lecture Series.

Ms. Nottage will deliver a free, public fireside chat at the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. on March 8, 2022.

UNI history department to help build online encyclopedia of Iowa history

The University of Northern Iowa's history department was recently awarded a $15,000 grant for a digital project to help preserve and share Iowa's history.

The awarded grant is part of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs’ recent announcement of more than $1.5 million in grants for the return of the state’s arts, culture, history and creative sector by supporting arts and cultural jobs and programming in the humanities.

UNI professor wins international music contest

Winning accolades is nothing new for UNI assistant professor and professional flutist Hannah Porter-Occeña. The accomplished flutist recently won Mu Phi Epsilon Foundation’s 2021 international music competition, which means she will take her mission of musical education around the world.

A virtual international experience

Although COVID-19 brought international travel to a grinding halt, that didn’t stop the University of Northern Iowa’s Study Abroad Center from offering students a chance to explore global cultures.

This past winter break, 42 UNI students spent two weeks virtually touring parts of Panama, Nicaragua, Brazil, and Chile, learning about the drivers of the economy and how COVID-19 has impacted Latin American’s daily lives.

UNI’s Education and Part-time MBA graduate programs were named two of the top graduate programs in the country, according to a new U.S. News & World Report ranking.
