UNI ranked in top 20% of veteran-friendly colleges

The University of Northern Iowa is now in the top 20% of veteran-friendly colleges, after its ranking by the comprehensive review service Military Friendly was increased from bronze to silver.

In addition to the accolade, Director for Military and Veteran Student Services Chiquita Loveless was recently named as the Military Hero for MercyOne’s 2021 Heroes Among Us, an annual initiative that honors community leaders, for her commitment in support of improving conditions for veterans on campus and in the community.

Hampton senior selected for 2021 Strottman Scholarship

UNI NEWS SERVICES - Rebekah (Bekah) Craighton, a senior at Hampton Dumont High School in Hampton, Iowa, has been awarded the Sally Gearhart Strottman Memorial Scholarship in Elementary Education at the University of Northern Iowa. The UNI College of Education awards this scholarship to an incoming freshman from Northeast Iowa who will pursue a degree in elementary education.

After two years of extensive research and collaborative creative development, the University of Northern Iowa today unveiled its new brand identity, which includes a comprehensive brand strategy, updated website, new recruitment and communications materials, and a new institutional logo.

University of Northern Iowa ranks in top 25% for online master’s in education programs

UNI NEWS SERVICES - The University of Northern Iowa’s online master’s in education programs ranked among the top 25% nationally in a recently released 2021 U.S. News and World Report review.

The UNI programs tied for 72nd among 296 programs for master’s degrees in the first year UNI submitted information for this particular category.

UNI Diversity Colloquium to discuss barriers within family prison visitation

UNI NEWS SERVICES – The University of Northern Iowa welcomes the community to participate in a virtual seminar that will address some of the current barriers surrounding family visitations within the American prison system.

The seminar, taking place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18, will be led by Assistant Professor of Criminology Alison Cox and explore her recent research on the topic. Alison Cox

UNI NEWS SERVICES – The University of Northern Iowa welcomes the community to the 2nd Annual Cedar Valley Women’s March. Due to Covid-19 precautions, the march will shift its format to a virtual discussion and explore the intersections of feminism in the United States and Cedar Valley.

UNI invites community to join Quest for Racial Equity

UNI NEWS SERVICES - A new University of Northern Iowa program launching today aims to spark community conversation about racial injustice and systemic change. 

The program, Cultivating Justice: A Quest Toward Racial Equity, is sponsored by the Office of the Provost and starts Jan. 25. Through an emailed weekly newsletter, it will expose participants to new issues and ideas, as well as local resources. Participants can register online.

UNI School of Music’s Community Music School to offer UNI Children’s Choir this spring

UNI NEWS SERVICES – The University of Northern Iowa Community Music School will offer an in-person, music-making experience for children this spring. The University of Northern Iowa Children’s Choir (UNICC) is a choral ensemble for students in grades 3 through 7.

Spring rehearsals start Feb. 2 at 6:30 p.m., on the UNI campus.
