Newly-renamed Yager Science Education Resources and Outreach center provides resources to students and teachers across Iowa

Demonstrating a deep commitment to the field of science education, UNI’s Science Education Resource Center has touched the lives of countless students and teachers across Iowa since it was founded in 1978.

Now, the center will continue on its mission under a new name: Yager Science Education Resources and Outreach.

Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust awards $213,000 to UNI for new microscopes

Earlier this year, the UNI Department of Biology received a $213,000 grant from the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust, which was used to purchase new microscopes outfitted with real-time imaging technology.

The new compound microscopes and stereo microscopes are outfitted with cameras that allow images to be displayed in real-time on a computer monitor, laptop or personal device. Users will be able to capture images, annotate them and use them in lab reports or for studying.

New automation degree coming to UNI in fall 2022

In keeping with its commitment to preparing graduates for Industry 4.0, the Department of Applied Engineering and Technical Management has announced the first degree of its kind in the state of Iowa.

The new Bachelor of Science in Automation Engineering Technology (AET) was approved by the Board of Regents in February and will be offered in the fall semester 2022.

A team of three University of Northern Iowa faculty members have been awarded a one-year grant of $66,682 from the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program to participate in a Noyce Capacity Project that aims to address the national need to develop an Elementary Master STEM Teacher Leader program in Iowa.

Two UNI alums featured in national Women in STEM exhibit

In honor of Women’s History Month, a new exhibit to celebrate Women in STEM is on display at the National Mall in Washington DC.  Out of 120 women featured in the exhibit, two of the women are graduates of UNI – both hailing from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry: Dr. Jennifer Stimpson (Chemistry M.A., 1996) and Dr. Raychelle Burks (Chemistry B.S., 2001).
